Music Instrument: Piano
Programme:Prelude in g sharp minor, Op.32, No.12
Composer:Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943)
The 13 preludes of Op.32 was composed by late romantic period composer Sergei Rachmaninoff in 1910, completing his cycle of the 24 preludes of all keys. These preludes are more complicated compared to the earlier ones.
Preludes were at first played before a bigger piece. However, in the romantic period, preludes became independent works and the style became freer. This characteristic can be found in Rachmaninoff’s preludes.
The prelude in g sharp minor is in a ternary form. It begins with a motif of the right hand that spreads across the whole piece as the heartbeat. Then comes the really long melody theme that appeared three times in the prelude. In the first time, it was very weak, but it becomes stronger in the second time, and some change also appeared. Then when we come into the middle part, the heartbeat motif was strengthened by the left hand chords. After a flowing melody of downward scale, the music became anxious, and with the motif strengthened again, the climax was reached. When the music calms down, the theme appeared again, but this time in octaves, yet after the theme, another uprising occurs, with the music almost frozen. In the end, the music slowly vanishes into silence.

曲目:前奏曲 升g小调,op.32,no.12
